Scripture

Take a moment to immerse yourself in this month's highlighted Bible verse. Whether you choose to read just the verse or delve into the full chapter, allow its message to resonate within you and lead you to the next step which is observation.

Observation

As you reflect on the bible verse, observe what truly stands out to you. Consider key details, themes, and insights that resonate in your heart and mind. This practice can deepen your understanding and connection to the text.

Application

In applying the teachings of the Bible passage, think about how it speaks to your life. What lessons are you learning about God's presence, promise, or his character, in the text? It's not just about understanding; it's about transforming that understanding into meaningful action.

Prayer

We encourage you to engage in prayer. Take a moment to ask God for clarity and guidance concerning the scripture you've been exploring. This is a personal journey, and I hope you find strength in these truths as you integrate them into your life.

Prayer Changes Things

What is prayer?

Prayer is simply a direct conversation with God. The sole purpose of prayer is to develop and strengthen a relationship between the heavenly father and his earthly child. The components of prayer include acknowledging that he is God, thanksgiving, adoration, confession, requests, and last but not least…. listening. After all, a conversation can’t take place if one person is doing all the talking.

Understanding prayer

God answers all prayers. Sometimes the answer is yes, sometimes the answer is no, and often times the answer is wait. Whatever the answer, we must trust God because he sees what we cannot see and he only wants what is best for us. So even a no answer is a good thing. There will come a time where you will look back and thank him for saying no.

What? God speaks?

Absolutely. You can’t hear God’s voice if your conversation with him is one way. When you give god a laundry list of things you want then get up and walk away, you leave god hanging and miss the whole point of prayer.  Recognizing god’s voice takes practice because he talks to people in many different ways. Once, in the Old Testament, he even spoke through a donkey who was trying to save his master….no kidding.

  • Numbers 22:28 KJV

  • And the LORD opened the mouth of the ass, and she said unto Balaam, What have I done unto thee, that thou hast smitten me these three times?

Most of the time the bible describes his voice as still and small, or in other words a whisper. It’s like a thought that is easily dismissed. By adding a listening component to the end of your prayer, you will become more proficient in recognizing God’s voice.  He is always talking to you.

  • Revelation 3:20 KJV

  • Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me.

Can you imagine what your best life would look like if you could hear God’s voice guiding you?

  • John 10:27 KJV

  • My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me.

Discussion questions:

  1. How should I respond when my prayers seem to go unanswered?

  2. Is there a right way to pray?

  3. Can  prayer reduce stress and negative emotions?
